Copywriting fees
Rates for copywriting
I don’t have a price list. Every copywriting project is too different to use one. Some projects are better suited to a fixed project fee, and some are better suited to a day rate.
My day rate is £420, and I offer discounts to small charities and not-for-profits, local start-ups and small independent businesses.
Fixed-cost project fees
If it’s a writing or an editing project and I know exactly what I need to do, then I can quote you a fixed project fee.
If it’s a copywriting project, then this fee will include an initial briefing meeting, a first draft, and one set of revisions to this draft. This fee does not usually include out-of-pocket travel expenses or any extra face-to-face meetings. If the project brief changes, then we’ll need to discuss any extra charges.
Working on a day rate
If it’s a larger project and the scope of the project is still evolving then I’m more likely to give you an estimate based on a day rate. The minimum rate that I use to calculate my fees is £420/day. This fee does not usually include out-of-pocket travel expenses beyond Brighton & Hove.
Payment terms
If you’re a new client, I will need 50% of the project fee paid up front. This is payable within 7 days of the project start date. If the deadlines for the project are short then I’ll ask you to pay this initial deposit immediately.
For larger projects that run over a number of months, we can agree a payment schedule based on the work that is completed each month.
I’ll issue the final invoice when I send through the final draft. (Most copywriting projects include a first draft and two rounds of revisions in the cost.)
The payment terms are 15 days on all invoices, unless we’ve agreed otherwise.
When I send you through any draft copy, you need to send me any revision requests within 21 days. If I don’t get your requests within that time I will invoice you for all the work I’ve already done.
Overdue payments
I reserve the right to charge interest on payments that are overdue by more than 5 days. Interest will be charged in line with the UK Government’s Better Payment Practice Code.
